Commercial Snow Blowers

Snow blower runs for a few seconds then shuts off?

I have a Toro snow blower, purchased last winter that hasn't given me any problems before today. It's electric start, I prime it a few times & it runs for a few seconds then shuts off. If I prime it a lot it runs longer, so I am thinking that the fuel line is frozen. It's VERY cold today, it's -24C and it never gets that cold usually. Could this be the issue, and if so, what can I do about it? Anything else I can check out? Thanks thanks guys I am leaving it for now, going to check it again tomorrow when it's supposed to be warmer...if it still has problems I will call my brother to come look at it & try the other suggestions. Thanks again!

  1. After it begins to start keep pressing the prime bulb to keep it running. After a while it will warm up and continue on it own..... at least that is what it says here in fine print..... give it a try.
  2. Being that cold you could have moisture in the fuel system that is frozen and preventing the engine from getting fuel. I think that the first thing I would try is a hair dryer, not a heat gun. Warm up the carburetor and see it that helps. If it does you may want to put some anti freeze additive in the tank. If the blower is kept inside above freezing it could be that the carburetor needs cleaning. What you describe is a lack of fuel flowing through the carburetor. It will run when primed but not on it's own. You could remove the float bowl and see what debris is in it. Check it for water. Water looks like a blob in the bottom of the container.
  3. Yeah, I think renpen has it, water in the floatbowl.
  4. a toro snow blower should be a 2 cycle, [may be wrong] if it is a 4 cycle then check the primer bulb for cracks
