Commercial Snow Blowers

Snowblower motor wont stay running.?

Hey guys I have a Tecumseh 7.5hp electric start, snow blower motor that wont stay running. It has fresh oil and gas. We have cleaned the carburetor and the carbon off the head. The motor is getting spark and fuel. This is what happens we will eleectric start it, and it will idle weirdly it almost goes from high revs to low. Then it shuts off after a few seconds. What could the problem be!!!! Thanks Ryan

  1. Fuel filter, dirt in fuel line, carb float sticking or needle valve, bad reed valve, or leaking gasket on crankcase. The fact that it will start but only run for a few minutes usually leads to bad fuel delivery problem.
  2. Take off the carb again. In the very bottom of the bowl is a small screw valve. Clean it. If it is dirty, the engine will run only a second or two, then die.
  3. Remove the carburetor and take it apart. Soak it in a good carburetor cleaner, not the spray stuff. While it is soaking go to the local small engine repair shop and get a rebuild kit for it. Now blow it out with compressed air and use a fine wire to make sure all passages and jets are clean. Blow it out with air again and put it back together. It will run like new.
  4. The needle valve on the carburetor may need adjusting. If it revs up and then seems like it is being choked, (smokes and chugs) and stops the needle must be adjusted in. If it is too far in the motor will start, rev up and then stall because it is not getting enough gas.
