Commercial Snow Blowers

Is it ok to tilt a snowblower to remove packed snow or ice?

When I am running my snowblower it sometimes misses packed snow at the bottom or some ice spots that may have formed. Is it ok to tilt the snowblower forward to get those spots or am I going to ruin the mechanism at the bottom? Thanks.

  1. The only mechanism at the bottom is a semi-sharp blade used for scraping. I have a simplicity 8HP that I have tilted forwards (lift up on rear), backwards and side to side numerous times without problems. Actually tipping it over would be a problem. If the snow is really packed. Clear it once, then scrap it with a small, narrow metal shovel (i use a roofing shovel), then go over it again with the blower to remove it.
  2. hope you caught len's sarcasm, you can tip it but under no circumstances use your hands...my neighbor had 3 fingers reattached cause even tho the snowblower wasnt running the belt and auger were under tension
