Commercial Snow Blowers

How do I replace the pull start rope on a snowblower?

I got the rope back on, but it doesn't wind itself back up after it is pulled. Isn't there a spring that rewinds the cord? I can't see where the spring is. I rotated the pulley, but it doesn't tighten up.

  1. It is possible that your spring is broken. If it is a Briggs & Stratton motor, they use a flat ribbon spring that is replaceable. You'll likely have to pull off the pulley to get to the spring assembly.
  2. For starter we have to know what make of engine, tecumseh, briggs, etc. Also what hp. as there are several rewind systems.
  3. spring may be broken in which case you must replace the whole starter, if spring isn't broken, you need to wind the spring before putting rope on http://home.gwi.net/~spectrum/snowservice.html#RECOIL something like this
  4. the spring is broken, take the complete assembly off the motor and take the assembly to the repair shop and let them put a new spring in it as they are a real pain to put in and get working right.
