How do I replace the pull start rope on a snowblower?
I got the rope back on, but it doesn't wind itself back up after it is pulled. Isn't there a spring that rewinds the cord? I can't see where the spring is. I rotated the pulley, but it doesn't tighten up.

- It is possible that your spring is broken. If it is a Briggs & Stratton motor, they use a flat ribbon spring that is replaceable. You'll likely have to pull off the pulley to get to the spring assembly.
- For starter we have to know what make of engine, tecumseh, briggs, etc. Also what hp. as there are several rewind systems.
- spring may be broken in which case you must replace the whole starter, if spring isn't broken, you need to wind the spring before putting rope on http://home.gwi.net/~spectrum/snowservice.html#RECOIL something like this
- the spring is broken, take the complete assembly off the motor and take the assembly to the repair shop and let them put a new spring in it as they are a real pain to put in and get working right.
