What is difference between 2 stage and 1 stage in snowblowers?
Public Comments
- 1 Stage has a fast moving auger or paddle that contacts the snow and throws it out through the front with vanes to direct the snow to the side. A 2 stage has a slow moving auger (first stage) that pushes the snow to the rear where a fan (second stage) throws it out to the side through a shoot. Single stage are smaller, lighter and faster for light snow. Two stage are heaver, more powerful and are for heavier and/or deeper snow. Bert
- A 2 stage snowblower has an impeller between the auger and the chute, which forces the snow out further than with a single stage. This also helps keep the chute from getting clogged. Generally, 2 stage snowblowers are self-propelled also, as opposed to single stage which must be pushed through the snow. Hope this helps.
