Commercial Snow Blowers

How can to stop JD 826 snowblower from back firing and stalling after startup?

Every time I start up the snowblower, it continually backfires. However, it will run while backfiring then stall as soon as the automatic drive is engaged. How do I fix it?

  1. key way pin sheared part way on flywheel, or part out of time , if it has a timing cam or could be a burnt valve and replace the spark plug
  2. It is possible that it is running very lean - this will allow it to run (and backfire) poorly, but as soon as load is applied to the engine it will stall. This could be caused by old gas clogging the carburetor or gumming up the float-valve. Try purging the gas line and running some carburetor cleaner through the carb to remove any gum or varnish, fill with fresh gasoline and see if this works. Or... If the gas is fresh and the carb & lines clear and it is still backfiring, then the timing is off or a valve is burnt/stuck. Either way in this case, you will have to take it to a repair-shop for proper diagnosis unless you are very handy and understand small engines.
